Clopay's top of the line doors feature three-layer construction (see illustration at left): (1) an outer skin of 24-gauge (models 4400/01) or 27-gauge galvanized steel, (2) a layer of polystyrene insulation that is pressure bonded between the two steel layers and ranges in thickness from 1 3/8" (R 6.4) to 2" (R 9.1) depending on the model, and (3) a steel backing plate that protects the insulation and enhances the appearance of the door.
